The word is out now; it can no longer be hidden. The region and town in Southern Louisiana that calls itself Ponchatoula, grows and nurtures the world's finest strawberries. We recently found that there is another hidden treasure from this region. We call that treasure Generation Of Praise (G.O.P) the area's latest gospel musical offering is a trio of talented young cousins. Kayla Robinson, Lawanda Smith, and John Cheatham are Generation of Praise It's rapidly becoming common knowledge to people in this region and even abroad that this brand new trio can really deliver! Their heartfelt reditions don't have any trouble reaching the hearts of audiences all across the south. Born and raised "way down south" We found them, singing up a storm! They started on the journey back in 1990 and were nurtured by their devoted manager and songwriter, Rose Cheatham. They are true veterans and troopers of the gospel music calling, even though their years don't imply it. 2001 marked their release of their debut CD entitled "Perfect Love" (Rampart Street Music Label). The CD showcases the wide and varied talents of the trio. Their music favors and flavors everything from Hip Hop and R&B to smooth jazz-influenced style. The group has performed with the likes of Shirley Caesar, John P. Kee, Mississippi Mass Choir and Dottie Peoples. They have also performed at major fairs and festivals throughout the south. They recently gave a stellar performance at the 2001 Essence Music Festival. They are rapidly winning the admiration and commendation of fans and peers alike, wherever they perform. The group opened for internationally known speaker, author and evangelist, Bishop T.D. Jakes Pastor of The Potter House Ministries in Dallas, Texas during New Orleans Jazz Festival 2002. G.O.P. is also scheduled to tour eight cities throughout Europe for the summer 2002. The group will also open for Louisiana Teen Summit 2002 in Baton Rouge, LA. |
