Swingaroux

SWING-A-ROUX, the idea, was born from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  In all of the reconstruction after the Great Flood of 2005, the musicians of New Orleans were stranded in a city and a profession ravaged by Katrina. Instrument by instrument, we banded together and SWING-A-ROUX, the band, arose from the rebirth of the city and its musical heritage with the musical components that will give your venue “music that cooks”.

SWING-A-ROUX…it ain’t your daddy’s big band.  The music is arranged in a jambalaya consisting of female vocalist, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and rhythm section, ready to serve; 0% fat 100% fun.  We’re unique….performing standards, jazz and more contemporary tunes but in a big band format...appealing to a wide range of music tastes, staying true to the big band era, but with a fresh sound.  From Frank Sinatra to Norah Jones to Stevie Wonder, we’re a big band with a big kick

The musicians of SWING-A-ROUX are not new to the music scene.  They are seasoned musicians, professionals and semi-professionals, some band directors, some studying music at local universities, but all affected by and rising out of the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. SWING-A-ROUX represents that same spirit of reconstruction.

The group started two years ago as a small Dixieland band playing reconstruction benefits for local events in communities affected by the storm. As the gigs grew to include businesses such as CC’s Coffee House and Ochsner Hospital Foundation, so did the band.

Our website, demo CD, and library of great arrangements are just part of the declaration that SWING-A-ROUX is making the next step in establishing our place in the greater New Orleans music scene.  And, we continue to hone our craft by practicing weekly at the local musician’s union rehearsal hall.

SWING-A-ROUX is fresh…ambitious….motivated and ready to “knock your socks off”.
